Welcome to 2023-2024

PILT has been on a roll for a month into its third year now, and with this being PILT’s first blog, we are tremendously excited to share with you the progress we’ve made in the little time we’ve been back in school.

A Month Into the Semester

We began the month relaxed after our summer break and started the new school year with a greeting post. As CEO-elect, Minori continues to prepare to take over, and will be leading Outreach starting next month. She will also be building her team to take over PILT operations after Brayden, Camila, and Kiara graduate this year.

Three of our partner schools launched projects in September.

Helix Charter High School

Helix has two projects in progress. The Art Club is in the process of painting large moving boxes to be used as blanket donation boxes for PATH San Diego for the holidays. One box has already been delivered to PATH, and we are eagerly awaiting more boxes with beautiful artwork (see photo above). At the end of September, a schoolwide hygiene products drive was also launched where items collected will be distributed to unhoused adults (through PATH San Diego), runaway teens (through StandUp For Kids), and transitional age foster youth in YMCA’s emergency shelters (through the “Housing Our Youth” collaborative). The drive will end on December 15.

Mission Bay High School

The Outreach Club at MBHS held a Crumbl Cookie fundraiser during Club Rush on September 1st. Funds collected were used to purchase hygiene products, which club members assembled into 32 Care kits for PATH San Diego’s unhoused clients.

St. Therese Academy

Mrs. Zoni’s 7th graders at St. Therese Academy are collecting hygiene items and pet care products to donate to PATH San Diego’s interim shelter residents and their emotional support animals. The students will take a tour of PATH San Diego’s downtown facility, “Connections,” and participate in activities to benefit PATH’s clients on November 27th.

What Can YOU Do?

At PILT, we help those who are experiencing housing and food insecurity. We know from experience that it makes a huge difference in their lives. (It also feels good to give!) You can be part of this difference too!

Or join us! Email brayden.pape24@gmail.com if you are interested.

Thank you so much for reading our blog and supporting PILT! We will keep you posted on what we’re doing next and keep an eye out for our next blog!
